Time to jump off the Stars bandwagon?
If there ever was a bandwagon.
This is the Dallas Stars’ games schedule for the month of March 2009. It’s disgraceful and the entire team and management should be embarrassed! 15 games…11 points (3 regulation wins, 1 OT win, 2 OTs)…11 losses (11 regulation, 3 OT). That’s a 27% win percentage or 20% win percentage not counting the OT win since the opponent gets one point for the loss.
This is a younger team than a few years ago, maybe that’s the issue. Turco is Turco and he lets the simplest shots go in but he also stops the seemingly unstoppable. I think in the past he’s been used to having a great pair of defense guys in front of him and he just has to stop the occasional highlight-reel shot.
This team this year has sorely disappointed me time and time again. I just see a lot of lethargic play, lazy-ass attempts at defense and some over-zealous, over-stayed ice times (does Ribeiro ring a bell?). C’mon Ribs there is no RIBS in TEAM and you aren’t the team! You had a very good year last year. You sported some fancy moves and nice goals but the opponents are on to you. They are not allowing you to do much like last year. That was the benefit of you having been a basic nobody until you started earning your dough last year. Relish in those good times because I think they are basically over.
Well anyway, the Stars will try again tonight against the Kings of L.A. in LA at 9:30pm CST. I probably won’t see the start of it as I will be playing tennis until late this evening. I then have to study for an all important marketing exam tomorrow–which I’m probably going to fail miserably…reverse psychology better work wonders.
Anyhow, good luck to you Stars even though it basically doesn’t matter. 7 points behind 8th place (STL). Six games remain against 3 teams previously lost to (1 being STL, 2 vying for the 8th spot [ANA,MIN]) and 3 teams won against (one in OT).
So here’s to hoping that you win all six games and the other teams lose all their remaining, then we’ll see you in the playoffs. Otherwise, you better get your tee times reserved!
It’s all how you perceive it
I was just in Facebook and I saw this ad on the right-hand side of my home page. I clicked on it because I’m always interested in something “free” although I knew this wasn’t going to be my definition of free. I thought it might be different since it was on Facebook and not in some freaking spam email.
I was wrong. I did see something funny though. One of the “Silver Level Offers” was the following. Depending on if she’s getting it or I’m getting it, I was tempted to sign up:

So many people I work and have worked with fall right into this “motivational” poster. I don’t kiss ass. It’s against my natural personality and moral upbringing. If my actions and job quality (always awesome to be sure) isn’t good enough for you, I’m not sucking ass just to get false appraisals.
Anyway, it was a coworker’s birthday today and a couple of us were thinking about giving this small-framed poster to him as a gift because he follows the boss-lady around like a lost puppy attaching itself to whatever teet it can find. It’s embarrassing (we are embarrassed for him) to watch but I guess he doesn’t mind and if it gets him what he wants more power too him.
Yes, this was random…I know.
A Chick-fil-a day
The wife and I went for a little breakfast this morning at Chick-fil-a after we dropped off the kids. Of course, we picked them up something on the way but we decided we’d go back and get our own so we could sit, relax and chat a bit. It’s a decent time had bad all…most of the time.
Anyway, my kids got the Chick-fil-a Chicken Mini (4-ct) with milk. My first thought of the design of the milk bottle is it looks like the remodeled bottles of Milk of Magnesia or some other “adult” indigestion/diarrhea medicinal liquid. It also reminds me of an energy drink (although it is blue) that a coworker of mine chugs.
So, nothing really interesting to post. Just randomly thinking aloud.
Sexual harassment through Facebook
I was randomly playing with my Facebook application on my Blackberry and something funny occurred to me even though I’ve seen it a hundred times. I guess I was just in a particularly humorous mood today.
So, could it be construed as sexual harassment if Holly is my coworker and I select “Poke Holly” or “Write on Holly”?
Smokey John’s [update]
I tried to find a website or something for you people to go to but instead found a fairly decent review by some blogger(s) who came up when I did a Google search.

This is their two-plate meal w/two veggies. I had sliced beef and chopped pork, baked beans and boiled cabbage with unsweetened tea for about $11.
Verdict: Pass. I’ve had better for less and all-you-can-eat for about the same cost.
The meat was a tad dry. The baked beans had to have come out of a can. The cabbage was no different than when I do it at home but mine is better (and cheaper).
I’m not saying it sucked but I live closer to Baker’s Ribs on Greenville and their meat is less dry, their sauce is not as watery and it cost about the same. So convenience will win out between the two.
I had never been to Smokey John’s and wanted to try it. I’d go again if I’m in the area but won’t make the drive just to go.

R.I.P. Natasha Richardson
I’m sure there are going to be, if not already, tons of posts across the Internet sphere about the tragic death of Natasha Richardson. So, I’ll make mine brief.
Poor Qui-Gon. I feel for you man and your two children.
I’m sorry to say that when the initial story broke about her being injured, I didn’t exactly know who she was. I mean I had seen her in the remake of the Parent Trap like thirty times and Maid in Manhattan but I didn’t know who she actually was until I saw the story and did some extra research on who she was. Only then did I really feel for her and her family. I liked her a lot in both those movies mentioned above and I thought she was quite attractive for an older lady.
Anyway, I wish celebs would realized that in the time between Sonny Bono and Arnold Schwarzenegger’s occurrences while skiing, they would learn that celebs and skiing DO NOT go together!
It does put into perspective though about how many non-celebrity types are killed in skiing accidents but are not widely publicized or even known because of them not being a “famous” figure.
So, cue the overprotective folks who now want helmets to be a required WORN piece of equipment for all skiers. That’s just stupid. Let’s say 1 million people ski in one year at one resort and something like 44 people die. I would say that’s a very low percentage. Besides, fuck those people that get hurt while skiing because I can’t afford it so it doesn’t affect me at all.
Sorry, had a little bit of Bitter Jay surface there.

Buchanan’s Fair Park Flea Market in Dallas
The father-in-law wanted to check out the Buchanan’s Fair Park Flea Market. He moved back in town for a few weeks ago from Springfield, IL and already he’s wanting to hit the flea markets like back in the little town of Pawnee, IL just outside of Springfield.
He heard about the Fair Park Market from someone in the ‘home’ he now lives in. I also read an article (here) at DallasNews.com about what a big deal it was going to be.
Take it from me when I say, “PASS!” I expected a little more than I saw. It’s basically Grandma and Grandpa’s or Little Redneck Annie’s attic/barn clean-out.
I did see some things that brought back childhood memories because I played or seen or someone in my family had these items but in no way would I want to purchase them twenty years later! There was overpriced jewelry, watches, knick-knacks, clothing, toys, knives and really just plain JUNK! I mean why would I want to buy a knife for $5-$10 at this shit hole when I can get a brand new one at Target, Walmart, Sports Authority or just about anywhere for about $10-$20 but it’s new and will come with some sort of limited warranty.
I really think Billy Ray and Bobby Sue should just burn all this shit on their little farm to keep them warm through the next winter.
If I heard it right, Fair Park charges these people $85 for an area in this building. It takes a lot of selling and buying junk at $1-$5 to just break even.
I’m telling you folks, do not waste your time at this place. I can say that I went and it was something new but I’m trying to help you out here…especially since they charge people a $3/adult cover to get into see all the junk. We thought it was free but little did we know.
We chalked it up to experience and hopefully my $9 will help spur someone’s economy.
In the news 03/12/2009
This morning on the MSN home page there was an article titled, “Who are the world’s richest now?” Click here for the article while it lasts.
Anyway, in typical ‘Jay’ fashion, it’s not the total content of the article — although interesting — that caught my eye but the section where they showed the rankings of 5 “celebrity” billionaires. (see screen capture below)
I circled the section for you brainless types. Now, in some generalization these people may be celebrities but to me they are not…except for maybe Richard Branson. Celebrity to me means someone who is or has been in some sort of show on the television or the movie screen. These are not people that are famous for a product they have created and/or sell. The five ‘celebs’ on the list are famous just for their product(s) except for Richard Branson who is a celebrity to me because I did not really know who he was until he did the failed show, “The Rebel Billionaire“. His attempts at multiple world records and occasional guest appearances on shows adds to the credibility of him being in my definition of celebrity. Furthermore, have you ever seen any of the other five on the red carpet? Maybe a few of their products but not the people themselves.
Anyway, hope you enjoyed another one of my way-random rants.
